Last Friday was our speech contest at the Boy's and Girl's Club Tucker Unit. We heard some awesome speeches from a lot of boys. Topics ranged from favorite video games to how the Club and Andor impacted their lives. While the scores were calculated, we heard some amazing beat boxing from one of the boys who gave a speech about how he found his talent and an outlet for his frustration in music.
Our winner: Ricky Burke. He gave a great speech about what the club has done for him growing up, and how it helped him become a capable, confident young man who wants to give back to his community. Way to go, Ricky! Spend that $50 well! Second place went to Colby Evans and his speech about Animal Farm. Third place was taken by Jairus Pettaway, who gave a speech about why elevators are scary. I agree! Excellent job, gentlemen!
A big thanks to our judges--Eric Wilbanks, Lisa Mantooth, and Michael Murphy--for giving your time and expertise to help these boys improve their public speaking skills. Hopefully the next time they get up in front of a crowd, they'll use your feedback to increase their confidence and send a more effective message. Great job everyone!
